Dr. Youssef Farhat, MD, PhD, is a highly qualified and board-certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist specializing in Gastrointestinal, Liver, and Pancreatic Pathology.

He holds a Medical Doctorate from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where he also completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, serving as Chief Resident from 2020 to 2021. He further pursued a fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at the University of Utah.

With a rich academic background in Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Farhat earned his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, focusing on the role of matrix turnover proteins in models of flexor tendon healing. His extensive research experience spans various aspects of pathology, including tumor analysis, histologic grading, immunostaining, and the correlation of microscopic findings with surgical pathology reports.

As a Staff Pathologist at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, MI, Dr. Farhat managed general sign-out responsibilities in a busy academic hospital-based practice, specializing in gastrointestinal specimens. He actively participated in teaching sessions with pathology residents and contributed significantly to case sign-out sessions.

Dr. Farhat has been actively engaged in multiple research projects, including work on tissue bank quality assurance, examining esophageal biopsies, evaluating pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors/carcinomas, and cytopathology research. He has presented his findings at various professional society meetings, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the Orthopaedic Research Society.

His commitment to education and leadership is evident through his roles as Chief Resident, where he organized resident surgical pathology unknown conferences, led teaching sessions for pathology residents, and served as a liaison between residents, department leadership, and laboratory personnel.

Despite being in private practice, Dr. Farhat has demonstrated a deep commitment to academia, with multiple peer-reviewed publications in prestigious journals and an extensive portfolio of presentations at national and local conferences. His expertise and contributions have been acknowledged through numerous awards and honors, including the Myron Schuster Residents Award and NIH pre-doctoral grant recipient status.

Dr. Farhat is an active member of several professional societies related to pathology, including the Pancreatobiliary Pathology Society, Hans Popper Hepatopathology Society, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, among others.
