Anatomical Pathology

Tom Hu is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He is currently based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With a strong background in pathology and laboratory medicine, Tom has made significant contributions to the field through his expertise in breast pathology and cytopathology.

Tom's educational journey includes a Doctor of Medicine degree from Wayne State University and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan. He completed his residency in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology and a Cytopathology Fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in both Cytopathology and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Tom is actively involved in teaching and mentoring aspiring medical professionals. He serves as faculty at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he contributes to various small group sessions and instructs in areas such as renal, endocrine, cardiovascular, and gastrointestinal pathology.

Tom has also contributed to the advancement of the field through lectures, seminars, and presentations. He has delivered presentations on a range of topics, including breast pathology, molecular testing in breast cancer, and various case studies. His commitment to quality improvement and patient safety is evident through his involvement in projects focused on molecular pathology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, and anatomical pathology.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Tom has a passion for music. He has been actively involved in a cappella singing, being a member of the Michigan G-Men and The Ultrasounds during his undergraduate and medical school years. His beatboxing skills have also earned him recognition, including winning awards for outstanding vocal percussion. Tom continues to pursue his musical interests and has even led workshops on beatboxing.
