Since 2005, Dr. Loughrey has worked as a lead consultant gastrointestinal pathologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast Trust.
He is also the pathology lead for Northern Ireland's Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Dr. Loughrey is a member of the Colorectal Cancer Regional Group of the Northern Ireland Cancer Network (NICaN), as well as the UK Pathology Steering Group for Bowel Cancer Screening. Dr Loughrey is Vice-Chair of Council for the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry and Chair of the International Collaboration for Cancer Reporting (ICCR), Colorectal Cancer group.
